Greening Cities

Today, more than half the world’s population live in cities. These cities contribute to 60% of greenhouse gas emissions. As urbanisation increases, so does congestion, inequality and pollution, with serious health consequences for us all. Well-designed places encourage walking, cycling and social interaction.

The Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environments (SPE) at UWE Bristol prepares the next generation of planners, providing them with the tools they need to raise the quality of new urban developments, and shape the spaces where we live, work and play to benefit our health and wellbeing.

About the Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environments

UWE Bristol’s Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environments aims to develop an understanding of how to achieve healthy, resilient, sustainable and smart places, in the context of climate and ecological emergencies.
